We are here to help you through troubled times. We need you to do a few quick checks before you call us.
Can I Get Things Running?
Your furnace may be able to be restarted by you until we can come see what’s wrong. Follow these steps before calling:
- Check your thermostat. Is it set too low or is the display not even working, if it’s an electronic model?
If it’s too low, it fix is simple – just turn the temperature up. If your furnace starts to work you should be ok.
If the display is blank, carefully remove the cover and see if you can replace the batteries inside. If you need help here, do call and we can help you.
- Go to your furnace and look for the switch that will turn power off from the furnace. Just about every installation will have something looking like a light switch to turn the furnace power off. Cycle the power off. Wait about one minute and then turn the power back on. If your furnace restarts, this may hold you, but if it turns off after a few minutes again, there may still be a problem.
- If your furnace isn’t coming on at all, go to your fuse box and see if your fuse or breaker is blown or open. There are rare times when a furnace breaker will flip off or blow the fuse. If you replace the fuse or the circuit breaker opens again, then there may be bigger issues.
- If your furnace is turning on, but there is no flame. If you have a modern furnace, it may be that the gas has accidentally turned off. You’ll need to call your local gas company. Don’t worry. They will normally have a call center 24 hours per day in case your gas has turned off or if there is an outage in the area. If you have an older furnace, it may need a pilot light to be re-lit. This is pretty rare, but it does happen. Again, if you need help here, give us a call. We are just a ring away.
